"Warning... addictive sport ahead!"
Well, nobody told me that before I started agility, but they should have! I thought I was starting in agility for my dog... and my dogs do love it, but I am a serious addict! There doesn't seem to be a 12-step program (it takes me way more than 12 steps to get around the course!), so I think I'm stuck with my addiction.
Fortunately, Staffords make great agility dogs! Not usually as speedy as the lighter bodied herding dogs, but they are very, very focused, and suprisingly handler responsive. And quite a bit faster than you'd expect, from their tank-like build!
Elmo was my first agility dog, and I've had tremendous success with him. Tully is still quite young, at the beginning of a very promising agility career. We enjoy trialing about the Pacific Northwest, under a few of the various agility organizations. The PNW agility community is really great, and we always enjoy seeing the successes of our friends with their various breeds.
Of course, since Staffords are not typically considered a top performance breed (and why not??!!), we particularly enjoy seeing or hearing about successes with other "non-traditional" breeds.
Our primary focus has been on AKC agility, but we do like to branch out now and then. There are few chances for UKC agility in the Pacific Northwest, but we have done what we could. UKC agility is a little different.
We are, of course, particularly happy to root on all our bully brethren. Occasionally, a bull breed dog might be featured in the news (hey, maybe even my dog!)
